Frequently Asked Questions
Have questions about the process, payments, or what to expect?
Here are some answers to help you feel more prepared.
Appointments & Process
How long do I have to wait to see you?
The wait time fluctuates with the seasons (no really, every time report cards go out, I get an influx of referrals and the wait time increases). In between grading periods, there tends to be a shorter wait time. Wait times have been as short as 3 weeks and as long as 4 months.
Are appointments virtual or in-person?
Intake and results appointments are typically virtual unless there is a strong preference otherwise. All actual testing takes place in my office, in- person, following current CDC health guidelines.
What should I bring or prepare for my child’s evaluation?
If you have academic or behavioral concerns, it’s helpful to bring:
• Recent report cards or grades (especially from past years)
• Work samples (reading, writing, math — anything that shows a pattern)
• Attendance records or past retention info (if available)
Also:
• Please complete the online forms emailed to you
• If your child is seeing a therapist, let them know about the evaluation and sign release forms so we can collaborate (if needed)
• Let your child’s teacher know too — especially if they’ll be asked to complete rating forms
Note: We recommend that children not attend the intake appointment to allow the parent to speak openly and freely without hurting any self-esteems of those also listening.
What happens during the intake appointment?
This is where we get to know each other. We’ll talk about:
• What brought you in
• What you’re noticing in your child (or yourself)
• What you hope to learn from testing
• Any relevant history, concerns, or goals
You’ll have space to ask questions, and I’ll share what the evaluation will look like from here.
How do I explain testing to my child?
When you book your appointments, in the intake packet of information, there is a handout for explaining the testing process to children. There are several scripted pieces of conversation that you can use to explain the process. If you have additional questions or need more guidance, you can always reach out to me through the patient portal.
Reports & Results
When will we receive the report?
Results are typically reviewed 2 weeks after testing.
Your written report is usually ready within one week of the feedback session and will be uploaded to the secure Patient Portal as a pdf.
The report will not be shared with anyone besides you unless it is an IEE evaluation. Once you receive the report, please read over it for additional questions you may have about the information included.
Insurance & Payment
Do you take insurance?
At this time, I am not credentialed with most insurance companies. I am contracted with Lyra Health to provide testing for eligible members through their employer-sponsored plans.
For clients not using Lyra, many families with out-of-network mental health benefits are able to submit for reimbursement. You will receive a Good Faith Estimate (GFE) upon booking your appointments. The GFE has procedure and diagnostic codes along with cost estimates (this is NOT the form you submit to insurance companies). I’m happy to provide a Superbill with all required information after all appointments have occurred and report is released to you to submit for reimbursement.
To check your coverage, ask your insurance provider:
- Do I have out-of-network coverage for psychological testing?
- Is testing by a Licensed Clinical Psychologist covered?
- What is my deductible or co-insurance?
- Are prior authorizations required?
- Can I submit a superbill for reimbursement?
Can I use my HSA or FSA to pay?
Yes! Many families have successfully used HSA/FSA funds to pay for testing. Please check with your provider to confirm eligibility.
Can I do a payment plan?
Yes. Payment plans can be arranged with:
• A card on file
• Clear dates and amounts (i.e., Every Tuesday for 8 weeks, $AMOUNT will be charged to ### credit card)
• A maximum plan length of three months
When is payment due?
• This depends on which payment option you choose: pay in full, 50/50, or payment plan.
– Regardless, your results are not reviewed/ report is not released until the balance is paid in full.
We’ll always go over this together up front. No hidden fees, no surprises.
What is your cancellation policy?
If you need to cancel, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. I understand that things come up and handle cancellations on a case-by-case basis.
Still Have Questions?
I’m happy to walk you through anything that feels unclear.
